It is now mid-day on Friday afternoon. The participants of The Ultimate Escape have been here for around five days now - so what has our experience working remotely been like? We have spent a bit of time telling everyone how scenic Byron Bay has been - but have we really gotten much work done?
Each day we were given about three hours of free time to get our usual work done, so clearly most of us didn’t get everything we wanted done. But the interesting thing is that at the same time we have been building the content for this blog site, helping create a documentary and promoting the use of mobile technology - so if I take that as part of the useful work I did this week I’d say that I’ve had a pretty good productivity level - probably better than what I would get in an office.
If you were working in Byron Bay (and not creating a documentary) how would you structure your day to get a good work life balance? Would you disappear at certain times of the day to take advantage of your surroundings and then work some different hours? Let us know.

I’m sure that in a place like Byron you would need to be sure to plan your schedule to enable work to be completed but to also be able to enjoy being ‘out of the office’
If you need to communicate with other office workers still back in the office, that will dictate needing to set aside certain hours of the day, but if you can go incommunicado, then I would try to work around the hours when I could be doing activities Byron is known for - surfing, sunning on the beach or enjoying the cafes & restaurants. Not sure how much time I would then have left to deliver some output for work!!
